10 Weeks to 10K Training Program 2024

Do you thrive in setting goals for yourself, and working together with others to attain them? Are you interested in raising the “bar” for yourself this Fall in completing a 10K, or shaving minutes off your finishing time? The 10 Weeks to 10K program might be just the thing for you!

The Reston Runners 10 Weeks to 10K Training Program returns this year starting Saturday October 5th, and continuing through Saturday, December 7, 2024. The program will again be led by RRCA Certified Coach John Koss. It culminates with the Jingle Bell Rock & Run 10K on December 14th in Ashburn, VA.

The program is open to runners, run/walkers, and walkers who want to train and do a 10K race. The goal is to complete or improve upon a 10K race. Both new and experienced participants are welcomed. Participants should be able to run, run/walk, or walk at least 3 miles prior to the beginning of the program. Membership in Reston Runners is welcomed, but not required. Participation in the 10K requires registration and payment of race fees in addition to the program fees.

Each Saturday morning at 8:00 am, the participants meet with the coaches for a brief talk and a run, run/walk, or walk. Meeting locations are at the start location of the regular Reston Runners Saturday courses, typically at a school, pool or park in Reston.

At the start of the program, participants are given a workout schedule that specifies the Saturday meeting locations as well as a weekly schedule of additional workouts that participants are asked to complete on their own. Participants are welcome to join other regularly scheduled Reston Runners runs, including a “choose your own pace and distance” Thursday evening run starting from Potomac River Running in Reston Town Center.

The program fee is $50 (with a $10 discount for current Reston Runners members) and includes coaching by a Road Runners Club of America certified coach, the weekly runs, the workout schedule, plenty of encouragement, and a t-shirt.

Registration will open on August 31, 2024 and will remain open until October 7.
