PRESIDENT: John Koss, Email

I’ve benefited enormously from the opportunities I’ve had to participate in Reston Runners events over the last 36 years of my membership, and have many close friends in the Club. I’ve served as Secretary, participated as a volunteer in the RMR and Youth in Motion programs, helped to put on the Annual Picnic, carried heavy jugs of cold water, and led the 10 Weeks to 10K program for the last several years. I’ve also tried my best to take course marking to the next level. There is something very special about Reston Runners!

VICE-PRESIDENT: Joan Koss

I joined Reston Runners in 1992 and after becoming confident with the Saturday five mile runs, I slowly worked up to the 10 mile runs on Sunday. From there it kept growing with the club’s increased distances during the summer to support those running a long distance race in the fall. My first (and second) marathon was the Marine Corps Marathon with the encouragement of the members of Reston Runners. I have sampled several other marathons in nearby states. The camaraderie of running and socializing with this club has been a blessing. It is a great group that I am happy to be a part and privileged to run with and support as a member our several programs—Women’s Training program, Youth in Motion, 10 weeks to 10K, Half Marathon Training Program as well as our running and support of the Run Thru Reston races.

SECRETARY: Dan Grove, Email

When I moved to Reston I saw the Triathlon - and I was hooked. I had been biking a lot, but had to learn how to run and swim. The Runners have been a great part of that learning, and now many runs, races, and tris later, I’m mostly a walker and biker. I’ve made amazing friends in the club and helped out with many of our programs. I am an active member with experience on the Board for several years.

TREASURER: Sydney Allen, Email

When I joined my first Reston Runners meetup in 2024, I found a welcoming community, motivation and advice, and a reason to explore the beautiful paths of Reston. The encouragement and assistance of my fellow runners helped me to complete my first half marathon, and I am hoping to train for many more races with the group and support others doing the same. I’m grateful for the privilege to give back to this special community as a member of the Board of Directors! Outside of running, I enjoy hiking and sharing my love of geology through endless fun facts about rocks.

MEMBERS-AT-LARGE

Mark Colturi

As an experienced and competitive runner, I have been an active participant and dedicated supporter of our club for many years. The club has allowed me to connect with others who share my passion and build many friendships. Reflecting on Brooks Running’s well-known slogan, “Run Happy,” I find it resonates deeply with my own outlook. Running has always been more than just a sport for me—it serves as a form of therapy that consistently brings a positive influence to my overall well-being. Each run helps me reset, stay grounded, and maintain a positive mindset. Cheers to embracing race days, celebrating achievements, and most importantly, having fun along the way.

Amy Byerly

Amy Byerly has been a Reston resident for more than 15 years and has been actively involved in the community since making Reston her home. Her volunteer experience includes supporting organizations such as T-Mobile, March of Dimes, Reston Chamber of Commerce, and Reston Runners events, where she has helped coordinate volunteer events ranging from small groups to hundreds of participants. Amy’s own fitness journey has also been shaped by the club. After years of struggling to make exercise a regular part of her life, she found encouragement through Reston Runners’ training programs and the friendships, support, and accountability of fellow members. From walking to completing the Cherry Blossom 10-Miler and signing up for future 10-mile and 10K races, Amy has experienced firsthand how welcoming training programs and a strong community can help people build confidence and reach new goals. As a Reston Runners Board Member At Large, Amy is excited to give back by supporting walkers, walk/runners, Run Thru Reston, and the many events and programs that help members stay active, connected, and encouraged.

Andrew Gilbertson

I have been a runner since high school but joining Reston Runners three years ago has helped reinvigorate my joy in running. Being a part of Reston Runners has allowed me to meet new friends, explore new parts of our area, and led to me running my first marathon in over a decade this past year. I have benefited from the interval training program and learning from knowledgeable runners. Since joining Reston Runners I have been a training program coach, a member of the Course Committee, and volunteer with Finish Line Services. I am happy to have the opportunity to become more involved at the board level in order to help ensure the clubs continued success, so that others can benefit from Reston Runners as I have.

Chris Williams

I have been with Reston Runners since 2023. Shortly after I graduated from college, I wanted to find a local running club where I could continue to build up my running skills and hang out with fellow runners. I have found a great community here which has pushed me to compete in several races and has given me the chance to explore the different parts of Reston on our weekend runs. With the club’s support, I hope to run my first marathon soon. Additionally, I am one of the co-editors of the Reston Runners eNews. Outside of running, you will probably find me doing high intensity workouts at CrossFit Reston or exploring the wider DC area.
