ONGOING AND UPCOMING EVENTS

  • Sunday, September 22:  Athletes Serving Athletes (ASA), a nonprofit that works to elevate the quality of life for those living with immobility by partnering them with volunteers from their community to train for and participate in mainstream running events, will hold its RunFest 5k in Reston Town Center.  ASA seeks run course marshals.  Sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0C48AEAA28A6FF2-47217244-2024#/ For more information about ASA and VA RunFest, please visit www.asa.run/varunfest/<http://www.asa.run/varunfest/Race organizers are offering a 50% discount to members of the Reston Runners community wishing to run as individual competitors (use discount code RESTON).  Trained “wingmen” will push mobility challenged participants in joggers during the race, and a “try a block” will be offered after the awards ceremony for any interested RR participants to try pushing a jogger with an ASA team.
  • Sunday, September 29:  The annual Reston Runners Airport Run

We will meet at the Reston North Commuter Parking Lot—the corner of Sunset Hills and Wiehle Avenue, at 6:30AM.   RR will arrange rides for all the runners to Reagan National Airport (DCA).  The plan is to start running as a group from the airport.  There are several options to choose the distance that you are comfortable with:

    1. From the airport, run along the Potomac River just past Roosevelt Island to Rosslyn (~4 miles).  You can take the Silver Line back to the Wiehle-Reston East Station.
    2. Continue to run along the Custis Trail to the W&OD Trail to East Falls Church Metro (~10 miles), and take the Silver Line back to Wiehle-Reston East Station.
    3. Continue to run along the W&OD Trail to Greensboro Station by turning right on Gallows Road from the W&OD Trail (respectable ~16 miles).  Several runners have done this in past years.
    4. Continue all the way to Reston North Commuter Parking Lot for just over 21 miles.  This is an excellent long-distance training run for your Fall Marathon (well-timed for MCM).

If you are interested in taking part in this epic annual event, please reserve your spot by contacting Young Nam at treasurer@restonrunners.org. The deadline for reserving your spot is September 23.  Looking forward to running together!

  • Saturday, January 4, 2025: Two-Person Relay

  • Tuesday and Thursday Mornings DIY Meet-Up Runs/Walks

There has been a lot of discussion to understand and properly document the Tuesday and Thursday morning runs/walks.  This is an energetic group who regularly meet at the McDonald’s parking lot off Wiehle Ave near Sunset Hills. Distance includes 3, 4, and 5 mile run or walk and meet up is at 6 a.m., 7 a.m., or 8 a.m. Most join at 8 a.m. sharp. It doesn't matter what time you join, or what pace you run—everyone enjoys the company, and of course the group welcomes everyone. After each run/walk, many gather for breakfast and good conversation.

RESTON RUNNERS

Reston Runners is based in Reston, Virginia and is a proud member of the Road Runners Club of America. We are one of the largest running clubs in Northern Virginia with a diverse range of athletic talent. Many new club members are training for their first 5K or 10K. Others are experienced runners who have run competitively and have completed dozens of marathons and ultramarathons. We are passionate about running (and walking) and strive to be fun and inclusive. As our name "Reston Runners" implies--we are a running club. However, we also have a very active group who prefer to walk. Our weekend events include both a run and a walk course.

Come join us for a group run on Saturday or Sunday. Become an active member to enjoy the many benefits of our community, friendship, social events, fitness tips, and opportunities to volunteer and give back.
