YIM (Youth In Motion)
Registration for YIM 2013 is FULL.
We look forward to seeing all our participants on June 23rd for some awesome running training and fun!

Reston Runners' Youth In Motion (YIM) program is a non-profit, non-competitive summer youth running/fitness program. Our mission is to introduce our youth to the joy of running and running-related activities in a fun atmosphere to help them maintain an active and healthy lifestyle. The program has been recognized in the past as the best youth running program in the country by the RRCA (Road Runners Club of America). It is comprised of 375 participants ages 4-13 years old.
Our theme this year is "Lucky 13"! More information about the events associated with our theme will be presented at our first session!
- Dates: Sunday evenings, 10 weeks, (6/23/13 - 8/25/13)
- Time: 6:30-7:30pm
- Location: Herndon High School track and accompanying field.
- All participants are divided into age groups: 4-5 year olds, 6-7 year olds, 8-9 year olds, 10-13 year olds (participants must be 4yrs of age by start of session 6/23/13).
- At the end of the season, we will hold our 2nd Annual YIM Race & Party at Lake Fairfax Park on 8/25/13!

All participants start a few minutes before 6:30 by jogging around the track to warm up. Then, group sretching begins promptly at 6:30pm. Participants will then proceed with running/fitness activities with their coaches within their age groups at their designated training areas within the track area. At the end of sessions, participants are welcome to enjoy a refreshing icy pop treat.
For the younger age groups, it’s important to stress that the running and exercises are for fun – letting kids be kids and getting fit along the way. For the older age groups, we’re starting to impress upon them the importance of good running form and training along with some exercises to promote agility and muscle strength in a noncompetitive atmosphere. All age groups participate in activities and games designed to promote speed, endurance, flexibility, and strength. All participants are also encouraged to participate in our time trials in which they run in a simulated race conditions. This builds their confidence and camaraderie as they are encouraged to put forth their very best effort and cheer their peers! To view our past newsletters, please click HERE.
