Saturday

There were no newcomers and our ranks were further depleted by the annual pilgrimage to Boonsboro for the JFK50.  Still, 72 people showed up for the start at Tall Oaks, and we were pleased to have three Dave B’s with us: One nearly recovered from a 2-year ordeal with a torn Achilles; the second just reelected to the Nevada State Senate where he sits on the Ways and Means Committee; and the father of the previous Dave B, a long-time runner and supporter of the Club. The most important announcement came from Joe F, who noted that the upcoming Thanksgiving Day run will be in the lakeside pavillion at Lake Fairfax Park, Thursday at 9:00 a.m.; everyone should attend.

Saturday
A large crowd of runners and walkers met at Aldrin Elementary School to kick off an "Autumn-Glorious" weekend: bright sun, comfortable temperatures, and trees at their peak of color. We pity those who chose not to, or who could not, enjoy the out-of-doors, today! Many runners today were in between major events: Reveling in, or at least recovering from, one of the major marathons (MCM or NY), running a marathon (Richmond this weekend), or  tapering in preparation for next weekend's JFK50 Ultramarathon.
Whatever their state of recovery or preparation, there were between 90 and 100 people ready to head for breakfast--via the  routes designed by Dennis Hays (5-mile run) and Liz O'Toole (3-mile walk). Both routes were clearly marked, by the way, thanks to Chris D (walking course) and Bill D'A (run course). We need more course-markers, so consider volunteering for one of three or four choices every weekend. Click the "Volunteering" tab on our homepage. You'll need to be logged in with "author" access--something that can be quickly arranged by sending an email note to webmaster@restonrunners.org or coursemarkers@restonrunners.org. And, thanks, in advance!
